Heavy-Duty & Specialty Detergents

Industrial Degreaser & Specialty Detergents – Melbourne Wholesale Supply
This category holds the industrial degreaser concentrates, solvent and caustic detergents and task-specific cleaners that general-purpose products cannot handle. It is stocked for contract cleaners, warehouses, workshops, food manufacturers, shopping centres and property managers around Melbourne dealing with oil, grease, carbon, heavy traffic soil and odours.
Alongside the heavy-duty degreasers you will find specialty Agar formulas for escalators, wheelie bins, spa baths, tiles, carpet treatments and detergents with built-in air-freshening fragrance.
How to Choose a Heavy Duty Degreaser
Pick the chemistry to suit the soil and the surface, then confirm both on the label.

Product typeTypical soilsWatch-outs

Alkaline detergent / degreaserCooking grease, body oils, general heavy grimeCan dull or etch aluminium and some painted surfaces
Caustic (highly alkaline)Baked-on fat, carbonised oil, drains and canopiesCorrosive; needs gloves, eye protection and careful rinsing
Solvent-boosted detergentMineral oils, tyre marks, workshop grimeCheck ventilation and compatibility with rubber and plastics
Citrus or lemon degreaserLight to medium grease where a pleasant scent mattersStill read the SDS; natural scents are not a safety rating
Neutral specialty cleanerSensitive surfaces such as escalator treads or finished floorsOften less effective on heavy oil

As a rule of thumb on pH: the further from neutral (7), the stronger the cleaning action and the greater the need for PPE and surface testing. Dilute to the label ratio, apply with dwell time, agitate and rinse. Never mix caustic or chlorinated products with acids.
Agar Degreasers and Detergents in the Range
For heavy grease in plant rooms and loading docks, Agar Renegade is a heavy duty degreaser concentrate, while Agar Presto is a caustic fat and oil remover for baked-on residue. Agar SD-37 offers a lemon-scented alternative for general degreasing. Specialist tasks are covered too: Agar Escalator Cleaner for shopping centre and transport sites, and Agar Wheelie Bin Cleaner for waste areas.
For greasy commercial kitchens specifically, also see our kitchen and food service cleaners.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a degreaser and a detergent?
Detergents lift and suspend general soil, while degreasers are formulated with higher alkalinity or solvents to break down oils and fats. Many heavy-duty products do both.
Can I use an industrial degreaser on painted or aluminium surfaces?
Strong alkaline and caustic products can damage these finishes. Use a milder option where the label confirms suitability and spot test first.
Why are some detergents also air fresheners?
Fragranced detergents clean and leave a scent in one step, which is handy for mopping corridors, change rooms and waste areas.
Do I need special PPE for caustic cleaners?
Yes. Follow the SDS, which typically specifies chemical-resistant gloves and eye protection.
